You Made Us: A Mother’s Day Reflection with Hannah and Rachel Vasicek
In celebration of Mother's Day, we sat down with sisters and co-founders, Hannah and Rachel Vasicek, to talk all things motherhood - from the joyful chaos to the quiet, tender moments that shape their everyday lives. What unfolded was a deeply personal reflection on the journey of becoming a mother, the lessons they've learned along the way, and the unwavering impact of their own mum.
Hannah on Motherhood: “Every hug, every ‘I love you’ makes my heart burst”
For Hannah, motherhood has been the most challenging yet rewarding experience of her life. “The bond I share with my child is so indescribable. The love I have for them is something truly special,” she shares.
One of the greatest joys? Watching her children grow into their own unique personalities. “Every laugh, every hug, every ‘I love you’ makes my heart just burst with joy,” she says, smiling. These small, everyday moments have become her lifelines, tiny treasures she holds onto when the days feel long.
But motherhood doesn’t come without its challenges. “The biggest challenge for me is the overwhelming pressure I feel to be the best mum I can be,” Hannah admits. “Some days I’m physically exhausted, mentally stretched, and the desire to be everything for them really weighs heavily on me.”
Still, she’s learning to embrace the imperfection. “I’m creating my motherhood story to be one that does challenge me, but also reminds me to enjoy the little things. It’s about those tiny pockets of joy, and knowing that I am good enough to be their mum.”
Rachel on Pregnancy: “It’s a wild ride”
As Rachel prepares to step into motherhood, her reflections are full of both awe and honesty. “I would describe pregnancy as unexpected,” she says candidly. “You plan for it, but you have no idea what you’re stepping into. For me, it’s been full of nausea, exhaustion and fatigue, but also joy and awe at what the body can do.”
The first trimester, in particular, was a shock. “I feel like I was hoodwinked!” she laughs. “Everyone told me how hard it would be, even my sister, but nothing prepared me for the pure exhaustion. And then one day, you wake up and miraculously, you feel better. It’s a wild ride.”
Despite the challenges, Rachel finds immense joy in the magic of it all. “The best part of pregnancy is just watching this little person grow. Seeing the scans, imagining who they’ll be, it’s incredible what the female body is capable of.”
She’s envisioning her motherhood story as one filled with light. “I want it to be full of fun, excitement and love.”
A Tribute to Mum: “You made us”
As both sisters navigate their own journeys into motherhood, their thoughts return to the woman who shaped them, their mum.
“People often say, ‘you’ve made it,’” they reflect. “But Mum, you made us.”
They speak of her unconditional love, her fierce belief in them, her resilience. Of the way she instilled values, picked them up when they fell, and stood behind them through every moment of self-doubt.
“You didn’t just make us as individuals,” they say, “you made us as sisters. You gave us a bond that can’t be broken. You showed us what it means to love, to lean on each other, and to always have someone in your corner.”
As they look at the lives they’ve built, and the new generations they’re raising, they know one truth without question:
“We didn’t just make it. Mum, you made us.”
